I love this time of year! The nights are getting cooler, the leaves are turning color and Halloween looms on the horizon. It also means I get to work at Vala's Pumpkin Patch. For those of you who aren't familiar with Vala's, it's a farm that encompasses a wide range of activities and experiences for families. It's 100% family-friendly and I've had the pleasure of working there for about 15 years or so each season. In the Pumpkin Patch world, it's sort of known as the "Disneyl
Okay, I'm more than a little biased about this. My nephew, Marcus Sikora wrote this book, but even if he hadn't, I'd still urge you to add it to your library. "Black Day, The Monster Rock Band" is a perfect children's book for Halloween. The book is fantastically illustrated with classic monsters in such a way that it won't be scary for young children. This book also has message about inclusion and befriending those who are different than you. This is especially significant w
Wow! What a great summer it's been! I had the opportunity to visit libraries throughout Nebraska, North & South Dakota, Iowa and Kansas. Not only did I get to see a lot of library friends, but I also got to make some NEW library friends! I performed at about a half dozen new libraries this summer. The "Libraries Rock" Summer Reading Program theme was certainly a fun one. The show got terrific reviews in both the Fremont, Tribune and the newspaper in Scottsbluff Star-Herald. T
Last Friday, May 25th, I kicked off my Summer Reading Program season with the Wahoo Public Library! Carrie Trutna almost always has me kick off their Summer Reading Program and they're usually the first library I do each year. The first show went a lot more smoothly than I expected it to. There were just a few little glitches (mostly with the sound system when it came to playing music), but I handled everything in stride and received some great compliments about the new show.
Every year about this time, I start to feel bad about something. Usually by the end of April my summer starts to get pretty booked up. Not only am I performing at about 50 libraries, but I'm also appearing at fairs, festivals, child care centers, summer schools, birthday parties and corporate events. And it's always about mid-May when I get a few calls from libraries asking if I'm open on certain dates. Unfortunately, I almost never am. I try my best to find alternate dates t
You and I both want to have HUGE crowds at your library this summer and I want to help make that happen by giving you a few of these terrific posters to help promote my magic show. They're currently being printed and I hope to be able to start mailing them out to libraries in mid-April. You'll notice these posters have a convenient box at the bottom where you can fill in all of the necessary information like date & time of the show. They're 17 x 11 inches...a great size to pu
It's looking more and more like I may be doing ANOTHER week-long summer tour through the Peace Garden State. I've gotten calls from libraries in Dickinson and Lakota asking about my plans for this summer. It's a LONG drive from Omaha, but I can't tell you how much I enjoy visiting the libraries in North Dakota. I've reserved the week of June 11-15 for North Dakota libraries and will be working hard to fill my calendar in the next few days. If you're a North Dakota library, ge
