Omaha Magician Flying High

I recently attended the Society of American Magicians National Council Meeting in Salt Lake City. As the National 1st Vice President, I am always involved in countless meetings and planning sessions.

Unfortunately, I had to leave for Salt Lake City on my birthday (a collective "awwwww" would be appreciated here.) So although I couldn't be with my family on that day, I was still among friends. After a full day of informal meetings and get-togethers on my birthday, I treated myself to a 10-hour sleep. Before you judge me, bear in mind I had been up since 3 a.m.

The next day I had four meetings PLUS a sightseeing trip to Temple Square when I got to hear an organ recital in the Mormon Tabernacle. Their organ is one of the largest in the world with 11,623 pipes. It was absolutely amazing to see this wonderful instrument in action. When some of the low notes were hit, you could feel the rumbling in your chest. I found the rest of the tour fascinating and wish I had more time to spend there.

Now for the BIG news. I found out that I will be running unopposed in the next election, which means I can count on becoming the President-elect this summer at the National Convention in Philadelphia. I will then automatically become the 100th President of the Society of American Magicians in 2016 at the convention in Indianapolis. I'm honored to be the first Nebraska magician to hold this position.

It's a lot of work (even on my birthday), but it's the least I can do for an organization that has given me so much.
