Are My SRP Magic Shows Educational?

Well, that's a darned good question. When I put my shows together, there are a LOT of elements that are important for me to include. First of all, I want the show to be entertaining for both children AND adults. I remember going to events with my children and being bored to death while they had a good time. I made myself a promise that I would never do that to another parent.

Next, I want to make sure that the show fits the Summer Reading Program theme. I do that with new tricks, new routines, a new script, new costuming and a new backdrop. Sometimes these things are purchased or created years in advance. Other times, they find their way into shows at the last minute.

But I also always try to add a little educational element into my programs. Without trying to sound like a teacher, I drop little tidbits of information that I think are interesting. For instance, this summer in the Jurassic Magic Show, I'll talk about how it's super rare for a paleontologist to find a complete dinosaur skeleton. In fact, if they find 70% of the bones, they're VERY happy. For the Farm Fresh Magic Show, I'll be talking about some farm and flower facts. AND OF COURSE I'll also be giving some messages that encourage reading and visiting the library.

So, to answer the title question, Yes, there's some interesting educational elements scattered in with the fun and magic in my Summer Reading Program shows.
